Did you know?

People who live within 10 minutes of a park report better physical and mental health. Our Georgetown- Scott County community has over 20 and our organization has plans for each one of them. Here are some more fun facts about the benefits of parks in our community.

Parks encourage physical activity, reduce stress, and improve mental health for all ages. Spending time outdoors in green spaces has been shown to lower anxiety, improve mood and promote active families.

Playgrounds, trails, and gathering spaces help foster a sense of community. They bring neighbors together, create opportunities for families to connect, and encourage interaction across all generations and abilities.

Green spaces provide cleaner air, cooler temperatures for us, and habitats for wildlife. Trees and plants help improve air quality, manage stormwater, and contribute to a more sustainable future.

For KIDS sake

Access to safe, well- maintained parks allow children to develop critical social skills, imagination, and healthy habits through outdoor play and explorations- something that screens simply can not replace.

Parks and playgrounds create natural opportunities for children to meet new friends, cooperate, share, and resolve conflict in a safe environment. These social interactions help build communication skills, empathy and confidence.

Outdoor play is linked to higher levels of creativity, problem solving, and emotional resilience in children.

Outdoor play sparks curiosity while building essential skills like coordination, focus, and teamwork. Studies show that kids who spend more time outdoors show improved attention spans, better behavior in school, and stronger cognitive development.

Wait, Don't My Tax Dollars Already Pay of Parks?

Great question! Public funding provides a critical foundation for maintaining our parks and green spaces, but it often only covers the initial installation, basic operations and essential upkeep.  The reality is- creating vibrant, welcoming, and innovative park spaces that truly meet the needs of a growing community requires additional resources beyond what tax dollars can provide.

Donations, sponsorships, and volunteer support help us bridge that gap- funding things like new playgrounds, updated equipment, special programs, events, and future park development. Every contribution, big or small, financial or time given, helps us create spaces that everyone can enjoy... now and generations to come.
